UNION, KY (April 12, 2025) – Ben Harmon led from start to finish to claim his first career Northern Allstars Modified Series Powered by Sunoco Race Fuels on Saturday Night at the Florence Speedway. The 21-year-old Brooks, Kentucky native earned $1,200 in becoming the second different winner in 2 series races this year after the series was idle for 25 years.
Colin Green and Ryann Thomas both chased Harmon down late in the race to make it a 3-car battle for the lead, but Harmon was able to hold off those two by 0.824 seconds at ghe checkers. Jimmy Lennex, Jr. and Nick Snell completed the top five.
Harmon grabbed the lead at the start of the main event and pretty much held service until the only caution of the race flew on lap 13. On the restart, with seven laps to go both Green and Thomas were able to stay with Harmon. Thomas was able to briefly hold the second spot until Green got by him with five laps to go after Green had run second for a majority of the race after starting fourth.
In Sunoco Race Fuels Victory Lane Harmon got emotional explaining his first series win.
“Everybody in the modified world we work just as hard as the Late Model guys, so we deserve a little bit of the spotlight, too and I really appreciate having a good series to run. This is the closest to my house that we can get, and it worked out.”
“I might have led the whole thing, but I will tell you what I was scared to death. I could get into one pretty good and I was missing the hole in two. I got behind the lapped cars and I was just getting tight on the gas and I just felt like I hit them every lap. I was worried they were closing the gap on me (Green and Thomas), but it all worked out.”
Completing the top ten were J.P Roberts Jr., Joey Kramer, Matt Hamilton, Mikey Wilson, and Jack Dossey III.
The winner’s Bandit Race Car is powered by a B&R Speed Shop Engine and sponsored by KY Clutch and Performance, Whatever It Takes Transmission Parts Inc., Premier Auto Parts, Rhino Pac Premium Clutch Kit, and HCC Lawn Care.
